Roero Arneis DOCG was created in 2005.
The law: Roero Arneis DOCG: Min 95% Arneis, min 11% abv, 100% from Roero.
Notes: Citrus, stone fruits, and minerality. Best examples can age and develop nutty character.
History: The first records of Arneis date back to the 1400’s found on the hill of Renesio in Canale, Roero. The grape was neglected for a long time, most often used for blending to soften Nebbiolo or two distract birds from the higher quality grapes. However, in the 1980’s, many innovative, young producers started to recognize the true potential for the grape and began cultivating is as a single-variety wine. Today, through the use of reductive winemaking, top examples have proven these wines can age quite well despite old beliefs that they should be drunk in their youth.
