Roero Arneis Spumante DOCG was created in 2005.
The law: Roero Arneis Spumante DOCG: Min 95% Arneis, min 11.5% abv, min 4.5 g/l acidity, 100% from Roero, sparkling, can be made at any sweetness level.
Notes: Stone fruits, citrus, white flowers, as with typical Arneis, but with a yeasty finish. Best examples are made in the traditional method.
History: The first records of Arneis date back to the 1400’s found on the hill of Renesio in Canale, Roero. The grape was neglected for a long time, most often used for blending to soften Nebbiolo or two distract birds from the higher quality grapes. However, in the 1980’s, many innovative, young producers started to recognize the true potential for the grape and began cultivating is as a single-variety wine. Today, there are a number of sparkling wine producers in the region, most often using the traditional method for production.
