The Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri tour is underway celebrating the elite Italian wines who received the esteemed honor for 2015.
From Roero, there were four great wines named:
- Gepin 2010 Stefanino Costa Roero DOCG
- Giovanni Almondo Riserva 2011 Giovanni Almondo Roero DOCG
- Mombeltramo Riserva 2010 Malvirà Roero DOCG
- Printi Riserva 2010 Monchiero Carbone Roero DOCG
All four are made from 100% Nebbiolo, as it is the red grape of Roero, of course. The wines are excellent examples of the true abilities of both the land and the esteemed winemakers of the region to produce world-class wines. Many of the wines of multiple-time receivers of the Tre Bicchieri award, as well; this is the sixth award for Monchiero Carbone’s Printi, the second for the Giovanni Almondo Riserva, and the fourth for Malvira’s Mombeltramo. This is the first year the Stefanino Costa Gepin was created.
Nebbiolo from Roero is known for its notes of spice, sour cherries, forest fruit. Characteristically, they are elegant and refined, bold and fragrant and the best examples age very well.
